Creams and Pastes

The 3-Tau Model has provided excellent quality fits to NMRD curves from creams and pastes of the type used in consumer products, such as shampoo, conditioner, body gel, toothpaste, hand creams, to name but a few.

Below is an example of a 3 Tau Model fit to a silica-based paste (unpublished).

We find that silica-based materials contain a trace amount of iron(III) some of which desorbs from the surfaces into the water – see Aqueous ions for details.

​

The Fe(aq) component is tiny – about 0.05mM.

​

The silica contains traces of the paramagnetic ion Fe(III).  The contribution due to the interaction between the Fe(III) and the pore water is labelled HM.

 

The contribution to the relaxation rate due to interactions between surface and pore water is labelled HH.
